Play mpeg and wmv on my portable dvd player?

I have some mpeg and wmv clips I want to play on my Sony portable dvd player. I burned some of these clips to a blank cd-r but they wont play. Is their a program I can use to play these clips? Or is it not possible to play mpeg and wmv on my Sony portable dvd player?
